Meanwhile, W2 crosses over passing her partner to the left, continues behind M1, between M1 and M3, crosses over again but this time passing her partner to the R, in between W1 and W3, continues behind W3 and meets her partner below couple 3 and facing the top of the set. As couple 2 is passing behind couple 1, couple 1 takes a step up towards the top of the set.
Holding inside hands, couple 2 dances up the set between couples 3 and 1. At the top of the set, they drop the handhold, and M2 turns CCW, passing around M1 [ie cast off], and in between M1 and M3, while W2 passes CW around behind W1 and in between W1 and W3. Total 16 walking steps.

The dance is done three times through, so that all 3 couples finish in their original places.

When couple 1 has finished dancing pivot steps around couple 2 in part (c), couple 1 dances the last 8 pivot steps (21-24) down the centre of the set to the bottom, and does not dance pivot steps with couple 3. All couples take 1 step up towards the top of the set as couple 1 dances down.

See YouTube video from Spillemandsdansen på Lindegaarden september 2010. Note, in part (c) the couples are dancing polka around each other, rather than pivot steps.

Provenance: This fandango is in the tradition of English country round dances 'for as many as may', rather than the progressive longways set dance (contredanses anglaises) version of the fandango which appears to have been popularized in the 1800s, and which is characterized by a 'dancing around the Christmas tree' figure.

Provenance: The earliest mention of 'fandango' I have been able to locate is Minguet (Minguet, ca 1760, p.13); a contredanse française (quadrille). While the Van Winkle Ketter & Shimer source [see below] appears to be a reference to the many editions of John Playford's Dancing master I have been unable to identify fandango with any of the dances listed in either Playford’s Dancing Master: the compleat dance guide or The Dancing Master 1651–1728: an illustrated compendium by Robert M. Keller.
