Formation: longways set of 6 couples, in two lines, M to L and W to R as seen from the music. Couples are numbered 1 to 6 from the music (top of the set). Steps: chassé (change step), totrin (pivot), polka, sideløbstrin (slip-step), gangtrin (walk) |
||
Bars | Part | Dance progression: |
1-8 | (a) | Advance & retire: Holding hands in the lines, both lines advance, beginning with ML/WR foot,
with 1 chassé followed by 2 walking steps (1-2). Retire ditto, beginning with MR/WL foot (3-4).
Repeat (a) (5-8). |
9-16 | (b) | Lines circle out: Still holding hands in the lines, M1 turns CW (over his R shoulder) and pulling the line of men outside the set
towards the bottom of the set, turns CW again and pulls the line of M back to the top of the set.
Meanwhile, W1 turns CCW (over her L shoulder), pulling the line of women to the bottom of the set and back up to the top. 16 sideløbstrin. All finish one place above original places facing partner across the set. Alternatively M1 and W1 cross over, and lead the opposite lines in the same figure. Note that M1 and W1 are facing in the opposite direction from the lines they are leading. M1 and W1 finish by turning into the set to face partner. |
9-16 | (c) | C1 progresses: M1 and W1 take waltz hold, and dance to the bottom of the set with 6 turning polka steps followed by 4 totrin. Couple 1 finishes in couple 6's original place. |
Repeat from (a) 6 times, each time a new couple dancing as the active couple. The dance finishes when couple 1
has returned to the top of the set.
