Firtur paa langs, Himmerland

Country: Himmerland, Denmark
Type: progressive longways set dance
Formation: couples "as many as will" in two lines, M to R and W to L as seen from the music(=top of set). Couples numbered 1, 2, 3, 4, etc. from the music (top of the set).
Steps: vals (waltz)
Sheet music: 358:138
Recordings: Rebild Spillemænd Himmerlandsbal II track 02.

Bars Part Dance progression:
|:1-8:| (a) Circle: Pairs of couples form small circles and dance 8 waltz steps CW and 8 waltz steps CCW, with a light stamp in the turn.
9-16 (b) Chain: Beginning with M/L and W/R foot, chain to 2nd meeting with partner, 8 waltz steps.
Odd numbered couples (1, 3, etc) turn 1/2 turn CW holding right hands, on the first two beats, after which the chain is a normal chain.
9-16 (c) Turning waltz: Couples dance turning waltz in a small circle around the couple they just chained with, 1-1/2 times around, 8 waltz steps, and finish having changed places with that couple. Ie, the sequence of couples should now be 2, 1, 4, 3, etc. When the music starts from the beginning, couple 1 dances with couple 4, couple 3 with couple 6, etc., while couple 2 'stands over'.
[Repeat from (a) as desired]
This is a progressive dance. Odd numbered couples progress one couple down the line, while even numbered couples progress up the line. Odd numbered couples become even numbered couples when they reach the bottom of the line and 'stand over' one turn; similarly, even numbered couples become odd numbered couples once they reach the top of the line and stand over one turn.
The dance is finished when couple 1 has progressed all the way down the line and back up the line, to their original place.
