5-8   Cpls 1 & 2 chain: Couples 1 and 2 dance R-hand chain half-way round. Couple 1 continues an extra 1/4 turn so that all finish in origial places. 4 waltz steps.
9-16 (b) Cpl 1 cross, cast, cross, cast: M1 and W1 cross, giving R hands. M1 dances behind W2, in between W2 and W3, crossing and passing partner on the R, dances between M2 and M3, behind M3, finishing between M3 and M4. Meanshile, W1 dances behind M2, between M2 and M3, crossing and passing partner on the R, dances between W2 and W3, behind W3, finishing between W3 and W4. 8 waltz steps.
9-16   Cpl 1 dance up & cast: Couple 1, holding inside hands, dances up to the top of the set (couple 2 step up) with 4 waltz steps (9-12). M1 and W1 drop hold, and individually cast around couple 2, ie M1 casting CCW around M2, and W1 casting CW around W2, to meet between couples 2 and 3, 4 waltz steps (13-16).
|:17-24:| (c) Waltz: Couples 1 and 2 take waltz hold, and dance around each other (CCW), finishing with couple 1 in couple 2's place, ie having progressed one place. 16 waltz steps.
Note: Jacobsen & Thofte (Thybal p.104) describe this as: Couples 1 and 2 dance around each other (17-24), 8 waltz steps. Couples 2 and 3 dance around each other (17-24), 8 waltz steps. Couple 1 finishes between couples 2 and 3.
    Repeat from (a) as desired.
When couple 1 begins from (a) with couple 4, couple 2 begins dancing with couple 3.
When couple 1 reaches the 2nd last place in the rows, they alternate between dancing circle and R-hand chain with the last couple in the rows in part (a). W dances part (b) as above, M dances part (b) as above during the music for part (c). The last 2 couples do not, therefore, dance part (c).
Jacobsen & Thofte (Thybal p.104) also describe a variation for 3 couples per set danced as above, but couple 1 finishes in couple 3's place.
