Provenance: A similar dance and music has been known throughout the country. In Vendsyssel, in Jens Simonsens ms notebook from 1860, it was known as 'Dansk sprog eller Laschjot'. On central Thy, in Jens Christensens ms notebook from ca. 1870, it occurs as 'Galopen'. In Salling, Krogh, a teacher from Tøndering, documented the dance and transcribed the music as 'Pigernes aftensang' under which latter name the dance was also known in the Randers area and Himmerland. Music originally composed by Nicolas Dezède (ca 1740-1790), a French composer, for his opera-comique "Julie" (1772)
act 2 scene 1, with libretto by Jacques Marie Boutet Monvel. "Julie" was translated and performed in the Royal Theatre in
Copenhagen in 1783. Shortly thereafter, "Lison dormait" or "I Krattet Lise hvile tager" in Danish, was published as
a broadsheet ballad.

Jokum has proposed to Lisbet, and now the wedding is to take place in Kongelunden [trans: the King's grove] at the southernmost point of Amager.
