Provenance: According to Christiansen, this is a Sjællandsk version of what is known as trekant elsewhere in Denmark, and is likely over two hundred years old. It was commonly danced in the country side until after WWII, and is still danced in the area of Holbæk. On Jylland, it is called sekstur or trekant, and is still danced in many places, usually to 6/8-time music to many different tunes, and there they dance pivot steps instead of buzz steps.
While the name may suggest that it should be a waltz, with the exception of the version from Pær' vals, Vestjylland, it has little to do with a waltz.

Provenance: the dance was documented by Christian Olsen, from 'Torpelund', Eskebjerg near Kalundborg (1881-1968). Christian Olsen came from a family of musicians and interested in history. He collected many tunes, and published 3 pamphlets of Gamle danse fra Nordvestsjælland [Old dances from Northwest Zealand]. His entire collection of tunes is now in Dansk Folkemindesamling [Danish Folklore Archives], where this dance is preserved along with 6-7 others on a few sheets of paper, which he entitled "Attempt to describe the steps in the following dances". Archive # 1951/30 IX G:27.
In the original documentation, part (a) in sequences 5-10 are described as "two-handed Mens' and Women's stars". As there are only 3 couples in the set. these of necessity become front or back baskets.
