Thysætet: totur, tretur, firetur, halvfemtetur, femtur, tolvtur, Dronningens livstykke

Country: Thy, Denmark
Type: set dance
Note: According to Karl Skaarup, in his youth, this sequence of dances was always danced one after the other, taking and would last about 30 mins.: totur, tretur, firetur, halvfemtetur, femtur, tolvtur, Dronningens livstykke and finally a hopsa. Currently, the sequence is usually danced in two sets, the first consisting of: totur, tretur, firetur, halvfemtetur. The second set consists of: femtur, tolvtur, and Dronningens livstykke. Alternatively, a set could consist of: halvfemtetur, femtur, tolvtur, and possibly Dronningens livstykke.
Formation: sets of 2 couple, one facing in LOD, the other in RLOD, such that all sets form one large circle.

Jacobsen & Thofte [Thybal, p.46] describe all sequences as circling only CW, or CW and CCW
1 (a) Circle: The two couples form closed circle, and circle CW.
2 (a) Swing: Couples turn on the spot, CW or CCW.
3 (a) 1-hand star: Couples form one-hand star and turn CW, or CW and CCW.
4 (a) 2-hand star: Couples form two-hand star and turn CW.
5 (a) Back basket: Couples form back basket (hold around waist, back or shoulders) and turn CW, or CW and CCW.
6 (a) Circle: Couples form closed circle, and circle CW, or CW and CCW.
7 (a) Swing: The dance finishes with couples turning on the spot, CW, or CW and CCW.

Hamborg [Thydance I p.3] describes the following sequences, formerly danced with buzz steps, now more commonly pivot steps:
1 (a) Circle: The two couples form closed circle, and circle CW, or CW and CCW - not danced in Nord- and Midtthy. In Hillerslev this was also a couple turn on the spot., like (2 (a)) and (3 (a)).
2 (a) Swing: Couples turn on the spot.
3 (a) Swing: Couples turn on the spot.
4 (a) 1-hand star: Couples form one-hand star and turn CW, or CW and CCW.
5 (a) 2-hand star: Couples form two-hand star and turn CW, or CW and CCW.
6 (a) Back basket: Couples form back basket and turn CW, or CW and CCW.
7 (a) Circle: Couples form closed circle, and circle CW, or CW and CCW.
8 (a) Swing: The dance finishes with couples turning on the spot.
Couple turns normally danced turning CCW, esp in Hillerslev. One was not considered much of a dancer if one couldn't turn CCW. Also, historicallt, it was custom to have separate M and W sets for star and basket sequences. Now M and W dance these together.
