Provenance: the earliest mention of Pompadour I have managed to locate is in a Russian publication from 1899 the title of which translates as [Pompadour, new salon dance]. The next mention is in an article in "Now it is five-step" in The Sun (Baltimore, MD), of June 18, 1902 (in 4-4 time). It reappears in 1914 as a waltz, done to 3-4 time music in Clenenden, F. Leslie Dance mad. St. Louis: Arcade Print Co., 1914. p. 56. The Finnish version is in 4/4 time. Also occurs in Norway.
