Type: progressive longways set dance (in a circle)
Formation: open circle of couples, facing into circle. W stands to L of partner, front crossed thumb hold. [Couples are numbered CW from couple 1 to couple 'n'.]
[Alternatively, for recreational dancing, form 2 concentric circles of couples, inner circle (odd numbered couples) facing out, outer circle (even numbered couples) facing in, and all couples start dancing simultaneously. ]
Steps: kävelyä (walk) or small juoksu running steps [with 'soft' knees], polkua (stamp/stomp)

Bars Part Dance progression:
|:1-4:| 1 (a) Vastuu (advance & retire): Couple 1 (=active couple) turns to face couple 2 [1st couple on couple 1's L side, couple 1 faces out of circle, all other couples continue to face into the circle].
In front crossed thumb hold, active couple and couple 2 advance (1-2), 4 running steps [or 2 running steps followed by 2 stamps], and retire (3-4) ditto. Repeat (1 (a)), (1-4).
|:5-8:|   (b) Paripyörintä (couple turn): Both couples, in front crossed thumb hold, turn CW (5-8) 8 running steps on the spot [or 7 running steps followed by 2 stamps], and CCW (5-8) ditto.
|:1-4:| 2 (a) Risti (mylly; 1-hand star)): Active couple and couple 2 form R-hand star [at head height] and circle CW (1-4), 8 running steps[or 7 running steps followed by 2 stamps]. Ditto CCW in L-hand star, 8 running steps.
|:5-8:|   (b) Paripyörintä (couple turn): Both couples take upper arm hold with [opposite], turn CW (5-8) 8 running steps on the spot[or 7 running steps followed by 2 stamps], and CCW (5-8) ditto.
|:1-4:| 3 (a) Piiri (circle): Active couple and couple 2 form closed circle, and circle CW (1-4)[or 7 running steps followed by 2 stamps], 8 running steps. Ditto CCW, 8 running steps.
|:5-8:|   (b) Paripyörintä (couple turn): Both couples take closed waist-shoulder hold and turns CW (5-8) 8 running steps on the spot. Active couple moves in RLOD to next couple, ie couple 3, while circling CCW. Meanwhile, couple 2 circles CCW (5-8) ditto.
    Repeat from (1 (a)) with new couple. [On second repeat, couple 1 dances as above with couple 3.] Meanwhile, couple 2 takes upper arm hold with partner and turns CW on the spot, running steps. Ditto CCW. On third repeat, couple 1 dances with couple 4, and couple 2 (=another active couple) dances with couple 3, etc.]
[Continue until all couples have, in turn, danced with all other couples in the circle, and are back where they began.]
