The thief

Country: Canada
Type: mixer
Formation: any number of couples in closed circle. W stands to M's right. Plus additional person(s) with no partner (the thieves).
Steps: buzz, walk
Music: or any jig/reel with the right structure

1-4 (a) All cirle to the L (CW), 8 walking steps.
5-8   All circle to the R (CCW), 8 walking steps.
1-8   Couples take promenade hold (skater's position) and promenade in LOD. 16 walking steps.
9-16 (b) Drop hold with partner, give R hand to corner, and circle CW with 4 walking steps.
Give L hand to partner and continue in grand chain to new partner. 12 walking steps.
During chain, the thief(ves) attempts to insert him/herself into the chain, and thereby 'steal' a partner of the opposite gender. This will render another dancer partner-less, who then becomes the 'thief' in the next repeat.
9-16   Take waltz hold, and dance 16 buzz steps turning CW on the spot with new partner.
    Repeat from (a) as desired.
