Provenance:
From a handwritten notebook of sheet music and dance descriptions, inscribed [in Swedish] 'Notebook belonging to Lars Fornander Ericson, Döderhultsvijk', likely from the late 1700s or early 1800s. Lars Fornander Ericson, according to parish records, was born in 1787 and emigrated to 'Amerika' in 1807, at the age of about 20.
The original dance description in the notebook reads [translated from Swedish]: 2 lines, 2 and 2 couples do balancé, pasdurigadon and dos-a-dos, then promenade. End.
[Translator's note: since the chassé 'a trois pas' was a basic step at least from the early 1700s, I am suggesting it as the basic step in both the dos-à-dos and the promenade (part (b)).]
