The revision committe prefers to interpret the basic turning step as a galopp, although there is regional evidence for a step with 3 lifts in this part of the country. The music was published in the 1952 ed. of Norske folkdansar III: slåttar... with a note, common to all single-tune dances, that it had been transcribed from memory by Klara Semb in 1924, and was known throughout Norway. Provenance: The dance, and similar music, is also known to have occured as Stop in Denmark, Stopp on Åland and elsewhere in Finland, Stoggen & polkastoppen in Norway, Stoppen & 'Skåningen' in Sweden. According to Gammaldans i Norden, related dances are also known in Denmark as 'slibstensstykke', in Finland as 'piratyspolkka' [pidätyspolkka] and 'stopp-polka', and in Norway as 'stoggen' and 'Skåningen'.
